Uranyl nitrate is an oxidant and supports combustion. Uranyl nitrate is thermally decomposed to produce uranium trioxide, which continues to be heated to obtain triuranium octaoxide. Adding ammonia water to uranyl nitrate can precipitate ammonium diuranate, also known as "yellow cake".
